About the images

All of the pictures on the recipe pages were taken with the Fuji S1 digital camera, using various Nikon AF-D lenses. The pictures were taken in my kitchen, with only a fluorescent light for illumination; the white balance was adjusted accordingly. Most of the pictures were taken at an effective ISO of 1600, at f/5.6 with a shutter speed of anywhere from 1/30th to 1/60th of a second. Typically, the pictures use a zoom lens at around 30 to 50mm of focal length (which, due to the smaller size of the CCD versus 35mm film, comes out to effective focal length of 45 to 75mm).

The pictures were all taken while preparing the recipe or immediately before I consumed the results; these pictures are of the actual food made with the recipe as posted. While the pictures were taken at a resolution of 2304x1536 pixels (the second highest resolution available on the Fuji S1), they were then cropped and rescaled for the web page using the GIMP on a Linux box, creating a "full-size" image of 720x480 pixels and 120x80 pixel thumbnails for the recipe pages.

Here is a review (huge!) and a data sheet for the S1.
