Doug's new page of fun!

"There was no giant, no monster, no thing called Douglas to be followed. There was nothing in the tunnel but the puzzled men of courage who suddenly found themselves alone with shadows and darkness..."

Why have you come to this place?

Welcome to lovely berserker.lensflare.com, gateway to the lensflare domain (in its even newer and more improved location in Denver). Found here is the page of a man often referred to only by his userid, doubt (my middle initial is "B". You figure it out). King of his domain (and one or two others), he uses berserker as a stepping stone towards his plans for total world domination. Either that or this page is a desperate cry for attention. Most likely the latter.

You have always been here.

I'm Douglas Triggs. You might want to know who I am, although I can't imagine why. I used to have a page which recounted my childhood in a small log cabin in rural Illinois, how I chopped down the cherry tree, and how I found the cure for cancer at age four, but I seem to have misplaced it somewhere. Anyway, I'm a Rice University graduate (Jones '95), sometime software developer, sometime Unix system administrator, occasional writer, constant smartass and generally graphically oriented guy. Other stuff too, I suppose -- go check out my art and photography web site. (Ooh, look, my high school -- Rockhurst, in Kansas City -- has a web page, too!)

The rocks themselves.

I'm a national parks junkie. I like visiting national park units, hiking around in them, taking pictures of them, and generally exploring them. I don't don't visit them as often as I'd like (except maybe Rocky Mountain National Park next door), but I have seen a few in the last few years, and have a national parks page with a list of them.

Because it was there.

Somewhere along the line, I started climbing big mountains. Or at least what passes for big mountains in Colorado. Here are some pictures from some of the fourteeners I've climbed, along with accounts of my misadventures. Someday I hope to collect the whole set. I've also started taking pictures of them.

Pictures from the present...

When I moved to Colorado, I started taking pictures. I couldn't help myself, there were so many things to take pictures of here. At first, I went through lots of film, but lately, I've gone all digital. Anyway, I've put a few of my better pictures up on my photography pages.

Pictures from the past and future...

Over the years I've dabbled with computer animation and rendering, occasionally even doing animation work for hire. Most of the stuff I've done is rather old (produced in 1995 or before), but lately, I've started dabbling in it again. Some of the pictures can be found here on my graphics pages.

And the sky full of stars.

I've always had an interest in astronomy, but in Colorado, it's become a full-blown (read: expensive) hobby. Since I've been here, I've acquired a large number of (expensive) toys with which to pursue the sport. I've also started dabbling in astrophotography of late. So, read all about it on my astronomy pages.

Flaming death!

I love Thai food. Between that and the fact that I wanted to avoid overdosing on fast food (or junk food), it's only natural that I'd teach myself to cook it. I also love cheesecake, which I suppose isn't really a step up from junk food, health-wise. At any rate, both categories are well represented on my recipe pages, along with some pictures to (hopefully) encourage the appetite. Being the lazy (read: bachelor) sort, all of the recipes are fairly easy, or else I wouldn't use them as often as I do.

I'm not turning Japanese...

...But I am trying to learn the language (albeit not just Japanese, but my study of other languages hasn't produced anything worthy of a web page so far). My interest in anime and Kurosawa flicks is entirely coincidental; the real reason I want to learn it is because it's hard, and because of that I'm more interested in the written than the spoken language (although they do go together, ultimately). At any rate, I've also wrote a bunch of drill tools to help me learn it, and you can read about them on my Japanese page.

Final random thoughts.

This is where the rest goes. So, a link to Evil One's page and SFFnet, cuz that's about it for the moment.

Oh, and a link to my blog, my newsgroup, my election game, and my cars.
